President’s Message for november/December 2020

HELLO, Friends and...

... supporters of the Danish church in Toronto. Covid is still with us, and we have to remain vigilant to keep our families and friends safe. Make sure you do your best to follow all the public health rules regarding this virus. The more we work together, the sooner we can get it under control. Patience, sacrifice, and understanding will be needed, but we can and will do it.

We have had great participation and feedback regarding our Sunday morning services. As most of you know we are now also live streaming them. We received an email from someone in Denmark who enjoyed watching it – not bad for a little Danish church in a “far off country”. These services are all we are currently allowed to do at the church per the city health rules. We are grateful that we can continue to do this, and for the support you have shown with both participation and donations.

Fall is already here now, and Christmas is knocking on our door. 2020 has been a very different year for all of us because of the virus. It has cancelled all activities at the church except for Sunday services. We are learning how to cope with the virus as it will no doubt be part of our lives for many months yet to come. One of our challenges at the church is to maintain some sort of income stream as we still have expenses to pay. The on-line import store has been a great success in this effort, as well as the lottery. We are also going to be selling our amazing smørrebrød sandwiches at the on-line bazaar on November 21. And we will soon be promoting a fundraising plan to help pay for the sanctuary upgrade. Please make sure you read the notes on how these events will be done.

A notice was sent out to registered members regarding the virtual AGM on Zoom. There is another article in the newsletter about how to participate that you need to read (pg 6). Despite not being able to hold our usual Christmas festivities at the church, we are still planning some events that you can be part of and that will celebrate this joyous season. A progressive on-line Christmas concert is in the works. We will have two special Christmas Eve services this year. Pastor Simon and the Board are doing as much as they can to keep Christ and Christmas close to our hearts. Hopefully you will join us when and where you can. Get the details about these events in this newsletter or on our website and Facebook.

This church is still alive and well thanks to our Pastor and Board – and you – our members and supporters. Best wishes for a happy and safe holiday season.
