16 old church chairs from Copenhagen get new life in Toronto
Before Easter, three large boxes arrived at the Church from Denmark. The boxes contained 16 Danish design chairs and more than 200 Højskole-songbooks donated from churches in Denmark to the Danish Church in Toronto.
The chairs are from Vejleå Church near Copenhagen. As a part of the planned renovation of the sanctuary, the pews will be replaced by chairs to provide more flexibility. One of the chairs being considered is a Danish chairs made by Borge Mogensen, and with this donation from Denmark, this chair can be examined.
The Højskole-songbooks are donated from Gellerup and Møllevang Churches in Aarhus and Møltrup Optagelseshjem - a diaconal institution for homeless men near Herning. Two hundred songbooks are more than is required for the church so some books will be given to the Danish Embassy in Ottawa.
Sixteen chairs and 200 songbooks take up a lot of space and are expensive to ship, but the international freight and customs clearance services were provided by FCL Fisker Customs and Logistics, generously donated by Anders Fisker and Christina Fisker.
- We are so grateful for the support we get both economically and via donations of the 16 chairs, 200 songbooks, including door-to-door shipping and clearance, from Aarhus and Copenhagen to the Danish Lutheran Church of Toronto. We are 100% self-sufficient so all kinds of support are welcomed, the church’s President Sune Overgaard says thankfully.
